Fitting Stereo

Post by james » Fri Jul 14, 2006 11:43 am

I've just upgraded the rubbish stereo that came with my S2 for an Alpine jobby that can use my Ipod nano. Problem is that there are so many peripheral connectors dangling out of the back of it that there isnt much room to slide the unit back all the way.

Do I need to remove the top of the dashboard so I can slide it back (holding the cables out of the way) then refit the dash?

I need to run the iPod cable down to the "oddment tray" so I need to remove the trim around the left speaker (and drill a hole in the side). Do I need to remove the speaker to remove the trim? It seems stuck even though I've removed all the star headed screws. :?

Advice appreciated before I spend all day tomorrow taking more and more bits off the car!

i had this problem too.

on the S2 you can put your hand up from underneath to push the cables out of the way. it's a tight squeeze tho and uncomfortable as hell

helps to have someone else there to push the stereo in as you hold the cables out of the way

MacK

Alpine DVA-9861RI £350 (bargain compared to real shop prices!)

Works with Nano at "full speed" so I guess earlier ones were "slow speed" :?

Seems good but not very practical until I fix it in properly. :D This afternoon or tomorrows task. Can let you see it if you like. Only around the "corner" here in Livy. 8)
