Electric Windows

Post by Edin430 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:13 pm

A while ago I posted up saying I was going to swap out my manual winders and get the electric windows fitted.

I done so today and it's very straightforward.

We quickly figured out the door wouldn't take a universal kit therefore we needed to order all Lotus original parts. Here are a list of the parts you need -

A117M6064F (switches x 2)
A075W1030Z (screw x 6)
A075W4015Z (washer x 10)
A117W4194F (spacer x 6)
A907E6285F (Nut x 8 )
B117U0390F (Motor RH x 1)
B117U0389F (Motor LH x 1)
B117U0391H (window lift plate x 2)
A082W4099F (washer x 4)
A075W3049F (nut x 4)
A117U0345K (window backplate x 2)
A117U0344J (window bezel switch x 2)

All in all the total cost came to £448.09. That was at 15% VAT so will obviously be a wee bit higher now.

The windows are pre-wired on MY04 Toyota cars and later - you can find the wires in behind the door skin wrapped up in sticky tape. And it's a simply plug and play! Earlier cars will need be wired which will probably be more hassle than its worth.

If any one wants step by step guidance on the install just drop me a PM.

:cheers

You have just saved me the bother of working out the parts required to do this as I am planning the same for my '05 Exige. Of course the whole point of doing it is to save weight as the eletric window kits is lighter than the manual so it's a justifiable upgrade

Lets see how long it takes for someone to comment on that

I actually 'hand weighed' them and the manual mechanism is a lot heavier! I didn't believe the rumours either. Couldn't believe how much lighter they were to be honest!

Funny part is not even Lotus themselves could tell me what parts I needed. They said they didn't recommend it and would be too difficult to do. Took a few weeks to get a proper answer - oh and MMC told me it couldn't be done  but in the end Bell and Colvill came through! Parts guy called Oliver actually stripped a door for me and told me every peice I needed, they were great :thumbsup

Easy install as well. This is how you take the manual windows out http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f92/man ... ess-42447/ Only bit it doesn't tell you is you need to remove the central plastic cover and you need to take the rubber seals off the door to get the glass out. Once you do it's just a matter of sliding everything in, bolting it up and plugging it in. Then a bit of time to line the windows up (which I haven't done yet!!).

If you get stuck just shout.

I have dealt with Oliver (the new guy) at B&C and like the rest he is very helpfull. Nothing seems to be to much trouble for them no matter the size of the order.

Good effort but @ £450 and all that hassle I'd just stick with the manual windows :cheers

If I keep the car for the next few years which i'm hoping i will then the cost will spread itself out and be well worth it I think.. And was all in my budget of Project Mod as i've wanted it for a while

It's so nice to have the convenience as well but each to their own, some people will think I'm mad!

Oh and yes well recommend Oliver and the B&C team :thumbsup
