Garage in Livingston/West Lothian (NLC)

Post by Doc883 » Tue Dec 22, 2009 1:28 pm

I picked up a new set of track rod ends off Ebay to fit to the A4 uber barge and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a garage in the Livingston/West Lothian area that are competent to do the job and carry out a 4 wheel alignment? also any to avoid would be a great help :D

Farmer's at Brucefield industrial estate would be okay for that kind of thing - stay away from Knightsridge garage who are gunslingers. (having said that, I left Livvy 4 years ago so things may have changed)

I live in Bellsquarry and have used Farmer's a few times for tyres and most recently brakes on the A4 so will give them a call for a quote.

Stay away from the fitters right next door (HiQ)... see my thread from last week regarding getting the alignment done there & the general lack of interest they display.

Yes saw the post ref your problems. Booked into Farmers tomorrow, quoted £105 to fit and carry out alignment, so will report back tomorrow on how it went :)

As I said, I left 4 years ago but used them frequently when I lived in Livvy and found them to be good, but that was when Farmer's was relatively new and trying to shake off the Kwik-fit connection and the reputation that goes with it.

I had a bad experience with Farmers at Brucefield a couple of years ago. Asked them to fit a set of R888s to a set of wheels. They didn't seat the valves properly and they all had slow punctures which I didn't notice for 4 months (the wheels sat in the garage for a while). Took them back and they weren't interested. HiQ next door fixed them for free. Horses for courses, guess.

I now take all my cars in to GSM at the Gyle . The guys in there know VW/Audis and VXs well and are very professional and friendly. Eric stays in Livi and picks the car up and delivers it back to the house. Great service and very good prices. Not sure they can do alignment but can do tyres and aren't far from CLCM.

Too late now to help you out but I would have recommended Extreme Motorsport in Whitburn. They are Evo.Subaru specialists so know their way around changing geometry on the car and have the usual 4WD alignment kit to do it.

Maybe someone to consider for the future.

Yup, Extreme setup my elise very well when the CLCM waiting list was too long. Another thumbs up from me :thumbsup

Had 4 new tyres fitted to the wife's S-Max at HiQ @ Brucefield yesterday without a hitch (ordered via Black Circles and they are a listed fitter for my postcode). I did have the fitter come out and check the alloys before I left as they are immaculate and didn't want any 'free' scratches added.

Have a quick check of the pressures, just in case. They've not got any of mine right to date and I'm not the only one (normally waay to high). I guess law of averages, they must get some jobs right.
I've tried to raise a complaint on 2 occassions now via the HiQ website (there's a 'contact us' then a drop down box for complaint). You're limited to 2000 characters on that, so I've asked both times for an email address that I can send a full complaint to.
I've had no response to either attempt... so as far as I am concerned the lack of interest I've seen at Brucefield is a quality they posess company wide at HiQ.
