I haven't ever looked at one of these as mine have never failed - it has been extremely wet, and as I understand it the water collects in the fan assembly somewhere and allows the resistor pack to corrode away - so your intermittent behaviour might just be down to the amount of water collected in the fan assembly. Part of the "fix" is to drill a drain hole, as I understand it.

I suspect it will be well enough shagged by now that removing the fan/resistor pack will allow you to see what's wrong (well, somebody who's seen a broken one will recognize the problem, anyway).

I do think it's a front clam off job though :( unless somebody has worked out how to do it another way?

Cheers,
Robin
