Cobra alarm fob

Post by vet111s » Mon Jul 25, 2011 7:20 pm

Just a quicky. My alarm fob isn't disabling the alarm. The tiny red light on the fob flashes when the button is pressed. Does seem to have been a little temperamental of late so assuming battery. Just a pop out and replace or will it need reprogrammed afterwards? I can still use the little column stock for now.

Thanks in advance as usual

I think there is a reprogramming sequence required, though this can be simple if you still have one working fob.

It should all be described in the owner's manual .... do you have one for the car? If not what car (S1 I assume, but what vintage ...).

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks Robin
I do have the owners handbook (didn't think to look there!). Don't however have another fob unfortunately.

You need the immobiliser touch-key to synchronise new fobs, so if you don't have that you might be in trouble.

Sequence is as follows:

1. Disarm alarm and immobiliser (use touch-key)
2. Insert key and turn to the position just before engine start
3. Touch the touch-key to the socket on the steering wheel housing. The red alarm light on the dash will now light and stay on.
4. Press and hold both buttons on the fob for about 10 seconds until the red light on the fob flashes once and then goes on continuously.
5. Turn off the ignition. Congratulations, your fob is now programmed.
My car? Oh, it's the little yellow thing over there.

Thanks puffin. I've got the touch key so even someone as frightened of breaking things as me could probably manage that.
Will pick up a battery later in the week and see how it goes

Thanks puffin, you're a genius. 5 minute job, plipper now works and something ticked off my to-do list.

Cheers
