S1 111S brake discs

Post by c5tto » Sun Oct 09, 2011 9:07 pm

Im sure this has been spoken about on here but thought would ask question
I currently have a 99 elise 111s which i havent used in a few years and have decided to stick the car back on the road, but will be looking to change the discs and pads prior to putting it for an mot, can anyone recommend where to buy full set of discs and pads for a good price , and also are all S1 brakes the same size etc.
Cheers.

S1 brakes are the same size.

Lots of places to buy them - EBC are a major supplier of non-OEM disks, or of course you can check MMC prices for the originals. eliseparts, eliseshop, hangar111 are the common online places - easy to check to see who has best deal today.

Cheers,

If that listing is for 4 disks AND pads front & rear, then it's good value I think.

Can't say how good the pads will be though...I have used EBC disks since day 1 but never EBC pads. I always felt that disks for £60 a corner were reasonable value, and that was several years ago ;-) But even if you threw the pads away, that's reasonable VFM for the disks. Didn't check shipping though.

A set of Mintex 1144 pads or Pagid RS42s would complement these nicely.

Note - it may be possible to source a plain disk more cheaply, and if you really want grooves, our own Stu Pollock of Pollock Precision Engineering (stu160 on here) may be able to machine those in for you for a sensible consideration ;-)

That ad is a bit weird, ultimax are disc not pads, the pads mentioned are standard EBC pads. Would recon they would be OK for road use. I fitted the ultimax disc's and 1444 to my last Exige and found them pretty good and didn't break the bank.

I went with Mintex 1144 pads and EBC plain discs in January. With hindsight I would go for the slightly more expensive ultimax discs - better coating to stop rust on unswept parts.
http://www.eliseparts.com/products/show ... rbo-discs/ You might find them cheaper than there though.

Mintex pads are a big improvement over standard

Euro carparts do pagid plain discs in the correct size and cheaper than ebc. Don't know of quality but I've been happy enough for now. Fitted 1144 discs and been mighty happy so far with stopping power.

Tried to work a link but eurocarparts search engine doesn't seem to create an individual page. Brake discs here ; http://www.eurocarparts.com/brake-disc . They allow you to search using reg number. Coming in at £43.14 for front or rear pair. Seemed like good value assuming theyre not garbage which I'd hope they're not from pagid.

These aren't Ultimax (IIRC) as the grooves are wrong, and they should be black (colour due to a coating that helps prevent the unbraked areas from rusting). <EDIT just re-read link and it's a stock photo  >

These are what you want http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBC-ULTIMAX-F ... 1c1be5bf25

I haven't used that seller but others may have. Not sure about price as I bought my last in summer '09.

As for pads I'd get the Mintex that people talk about if you don't want to spend too much. I've always felt that brakes aren't worth skimping on and bought Pagids (or Carbon Lorraines these days). Think the CL RC5 (or whatever they're called) are well worth the money. Ask Ferg on here, Mintex I'm sure are ok, but the Pagid/CLs are in a totally different league.
