Battery light.

Post by Andym67 » Mon Oct 17, 2011 10:50 pm

Has anyone idea whats happened, battery light flashed for a bit and then went out. Headed home and stopped at the petrol station, started no problem. Drove two hundred yards home. Tried to start again and no go. clunked a few times then gave up. may it be the battery, alternator, Starter? Any help would be much appreciated. :cheers

Does the battery light come "ON" when you turn key to "ON" position, without starting. If not it could be battery, loose connection or battery indicator light. If indicator light, this effects the operation of the alternator, therefore battery doesn't charge. Never had fault on Elise, but have had on other cars.

My Elise wouldn't start recently. Cause was blown fuse for immobilser circuit, caused by trying to start with fault battery. wouldn't even turn over.

Did the engine management light stay on? I charged the battery and the car started, but the engine management light has come on. I don't want to run her just incase. :(

If you start and stop the engine half a dozen times or so the light will probably go out. If it doesn't then something is actually wrong, rather than it just being a code caused by the low battery voltage.

You didn't answer Stevie's question.

Does the battery warning light come on when you key to ON but don't start the engine.

Robin

I must apologise Stevie, been working strange hrs recently and my head is a bit of a mess, No the battery light comes doesn't come on, but the engine warning light has went off after a few starts. Looks like it might just be the battery, hope its not the light. Stevie u must be close to me, I'm north west Glasgow.

Cheers again,

Andy.

That's broken then :-(

When the ignition is on but the engine is stopped the battery (charge) warning light should be ON (to indicate that the battery is not charging).

I suspect broken wiring loom or broken alternator or possibly broken indicator on the dash (less likely).

Cheers,
Robin
