My wheels have been there since August... But every time I offered to collect he said he needed a few more days to get the tyres on ... Or he offered to bring them through. He kept saying they were safely tucked away and weren't causing him issues, so wasn't overly fussed given my car is off the road anyway.

Hope I haven't made a mistake trusting him! Either way, I'll be in Edinburgh tomorrow on the hunt for them. Don't really need this right now so hope he calls me asap to put my fears to rest.

I'm assuming Ali isn't stupid enough to abandon all the good bits and just walk away!!

I was talking to him a couple of weeks ago when he changed the toe links and did some other jobs on my VX220.

He mentioned that he was leaving his workshop in Loanhead but would be getting a ramp installed at his garage at home to do work there and he is also intending to do mobile work.

In short, I don't think you need to worry about losing any stuff left there. His garage was rammed full of stuff from the workshop!

I would happily recommend his services in general though. He is a little bit difficult to get hold of but every time I have talked to him he has been able to fit me in at short notice, does a great job (and I know I can trust him with my car unlike most mechanics who I watch like a hawk!) and he is very reasonable too! I feel quite lucky to live within 50 miles of a lotus specialist.

Cheers Iain, that's kinda what I was hoping he'd done. Dealt with Ali for years so I'd be extremely surprised if he's shafted anyone!!! I'm sure he's just had other things on his mind and hasn't got round to updating us all yet.

Would be good to hear it from him, so fingers crossed. Given the week I've had, I'm not leaving anything to chance anymore!!!!

I picked my car up from Ali's new place near Linlithgow on Saturday. There are lots of Lotus bits in his garage.

Oops away out for evening and a load of posts now. Didn't mean to start a panic.
Dont know Ali that well but he said work was quieter, he has moved house to near Linlithgow with more space and a big garage and the workshop was a fixed monthly overhead it would be nice not to have. He did move the ramps back and also talked to me about doing mobile stuff.
Also he has had my car back for 2 or 3 weeks now but hasn't done much on it as he was busy sorting the move. From the sounds of it he may have spent all this time moving the accumulations of SE from one place to another, when he could have just asked everyone to collect anything outstanding and due collection, saved lots of effort AND probably worked and finished my car in that time.
From what I know of Ali this sounds typical and he has been helpful to me, although not always the easiest to contact.
I spoke to him last Friday though and do have one of his mobile numbers that still works.
