Acceleration stutter -sort of.....

Post by j2 lot » Thu Jun 28, 2012 9:03 pm

Noticed tonight that when I accelerate hard the turbo spools up and then waste gate flutters - does it several times in quick succession, so I get a series of quick boosts instead of one constant, once the revs reach about 4k it's fine but up to then its like I am lifting off 2 or 3 times causing the turbo to boost then dump over and over. Revs stay constant and no MIL light :?
Car is Europa S ( 2.0 turbo vauxhall vx engine). Any ideas what the issue might be? Cheers, Keith.

I'm having a similar acceleration problem with my mini-accelerates to 2300rpm fine then all of a sudden the power dies on me and it's deathly slow. Using a fair amount of fuel as well. It's in Mini getting something else fixed and an mot so while it was there they plugged it in. They seem to think its a manifold pressure sensor that's gone. Hopefully it'll be a quick and cheapish fix......for both of us!! :thumbsup

Could be the inlet pipe collapsing under load. This happens a lot on the VX turbos after a while and people replace the inlet pipes with metal ones.

Have a search on VX220.org.uk, because although it's a different ecu in the Europa, the engine is the same as the VX220 turbo.

Hope so Jen. I am thinking mine must be a sensor too but that isnt based on any mechanical knowledge just that it runs well other than the turbo boost being intermittent

Ok - just checked and the end hose does seem to be quite soft. Had a quick search to check prices  ... for a pipe

Yup... just seen a pro alloy one for £116+vat  For a flipping pipe! :!:

Also check that you haven't got any water ingress in the coil pack. Apparently this is another common problem after heavy rain.
Dry it out in the airing cupboard and apparently it's fine. :thumbsup

Another one is to pull the ecu fuse in the fusebox for about 15-20mins to reset any codes/settings etc. It's fuse 8 (7.5a) in a VX but not sure in a europa.

It would be worth checking all your vacuum hoses and connections too. The waste gate will most likely be controlled by a solenoid which takes it's input from the vacuum hose.
