I have the car running - but

Post by BiggestNizzy » Wed Sep 05, 2012 10:06 pm

I went to fit a new pipe from the airbox to the side vent only to find out that my nice ITG filter has been replaced by a crappy paper one  So I fitted a Hurricane system instead as well as the 52mm throttle body I had lying around.

I sparked the car up tonight and it sounds like this

Watch on YouTube

I like the sooking noise, although just after this the rev's wern't upto 4000rpm :? a quick blip of the throttle seemed to fix it though.

Unfortunatly while pressing the accelerator it does this.

I have fitted a new air filter, throttle body plugs and Ht leads.

Have you done the throttle position sensor reset sequence (ignition on, 10 quick pumps up/down on throttle pedal, ignition off).

Have you checked that the TPS is actually connected?

Is the vacuum pipe connected to the ECU?

Is the throttle pot snapping shut nicely?

Cheers,
Robin

I would be tempted just to replace the tps , I have seen similar to your video with t bods when the tps has been fitted poorly ( hence failed ) either by not sitting flush or over tightened , with an after market ecu you can read the tps values being erratic , they can either give a flat area before responding again or go erratic right across the range
Its been a very long time since I had a std car but I thought the reset tps on a S1 was , ing on , drivers door open , pump throttle x 10, ing off then restart I have no idea what the drivers door ie interior light has to do with it maybe a myth

Often wondered that myself Bob when I used the procedure many years ago.

I also used to cross my legs, count to ten, say three Hail Marys, and that seemed to work.

I think so

It's as if it's just sitting off fully shut and no more

I should have known, it has done this before, I had a little water (well to be honest it looked like bird sh*t) in the distributor cap.

Anyway car is running and sounds great. I won't have it at the campaganza though as the fan has started rubbing on something and I don't want top spend a whole weekend cold with a fogged up windscreen.

Why do you take notice of weather forecasts?

We are all sunburnt and I never saw a spot of rain. The last thing we needed was a heater, driving in t-shirts.
