AP Racing Calipers / CL6 Pads

Post by martins » Mon Sep 10, 2012 2:02 pm

Went to fit front CL6 pads into the AP Racing Calipers on my S2 59 plate Exige and they appear to have a fraction too much material so do not fit. Can only be max 0.5 mm too much brake material. Nearly fit and could perhaps be persuaded with a blunt instrument but did not want to go down this road. 4 pot pistons are fully retracted. Anyone had a similar issue and if so is it simply a case of filing down until they fit or persuading into the gap with a hammer (def not my preferred solution)..

Still have some 4.5mm of pad left on the old ones so should be OK for the SIDC KH day on Saturday but really did want to get new pads in before then.

Cheers

I had exactly the same issue with RC5 pads on mine. From what I could see the earlier cars took 16.5mm thick pads, whereas the later ones only need 14.5mm - http://www.deroure.com/diagrams.asp?TBL ... 0&ST=&SC=0
If you've got the time I'd send them back and get them to send you the right thickness, otherwise you'll need to file them down a bit as the persuasion option wont work...

Neil

Thanks. Already had to reorder once as I made an error on the original order. Will measure things tonight and see what the issue is. May have to do some filing. Best wear a mask I suppose..

my CL o6's fitted okay, but that was with worn disks

i made sure that the piston was completely back flat by opening the bleed nipple and letting a bit of brake fluid out to help this it get back...a bit messy as the fluid suirts out but, less annoying than not being able to get the pistons back. you will just need to beleed the system after thou

another tip i did was take the two pads and rub them together....this may help loss a few mm to get them in ...also a bit of copper slip on the backs of the pads will help ease them in....

worth a try
