S2 Immobiliser

Post by steviej » Tue Jan 29, 2013 1:56 pm

Went to start my S2 today as I normally do every couple of weeeks over the winter, connected the battery, plenty power, everything ok but the immobiliser light is flashing and the fob wont put it off, so obvoiusly it wont start, small light on fob lighting up when you press it, tried with ign on or off, doors closed etc, no bleeps or flashes of indicators whatever you try makes no difference, anything obvious before I go any further with fuses etc ?

Do you have a second fob?

Also try pressing and holding the button for longer and at point blank range (e.g. from inside the car).

If the light is flashing I don't think you're looking at a fuse problem.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply Robin, I only have one fob, will renew the fob battery just incase, have tried holding it down longer etc, I never arm it before leaving it and disconnecting battery so usually don't have to even press the fob before the first start after reconnecting. Will attempt again tomorrow.

It may well be out of sync if you generally don't have to use it. It's worth checking your owners manual which has some trouble shooting stuff in it I think ... if you cannot make it work, let me know and I'll look up what I have to see if there's some sort of reset procedure.

Cheers,

Thanks again, I'll give it some more attention tomorrow, I read about a reset procedure which I'll try too, let you know how I get on.

I did the re-synchronise procedure this morning and its all working as normal again thankfully, here it is if anyone wants it for future reference;

Remove Fob battery for 10 secs, then replace again.
Hold down both buttons similtaniously for 10 secs - Fob Led will go off.
Release both buttons - Fob Led comes on constantly.
Press large button for 1 sec - Fob Led flashes.
Resynch complete.

:-)

Might be worth deliberately arming/disarming the immobiliser each time just before you disconnect the battery and then again when you reconnect the battery. This may help keep them in sync (or it may not - it's all folklore with these things as they make it a secret!).

When you reconnect the battery, if you start the car before the immobiliser lit kicks in the car should start without pressing key fob. Not a great advert for the cars security system, but it generally works.

Maybe so, but if you want the immobiliser system to work the way it is intended then you need to keep the fob and receiver in sync ...

Does the car keep running or will the immobiliser time out and arm anyway?

"When you reconnect the battery, if you start the car before the immobiliser lit kicks in the car should start without pressing key fob."

This is normally what happens, then its keeps running ok for as long as required, when you then switch it off the alarm arms as normal every time until the battery is disconnected again. Ive reconnected and started it since and all is back to normal..... I think it was maybe just sulking as it hadn't been visited for about 8 weeks.
