S1 Wheels

Post by GregR » Wed Sep 20, 2006 4:03 pm

So, my question for the techno bods is: Is there is any difference, bar the cosmetic, between the early S1 5-spoke wheels, the 99-onwards 6-spoke wheels, the 111S wheels and the 160/190 victories? I presume there must be a difference, and am sure I read somewhere that the victories are lighter….

And early 5 spokes are the lightest. (Apart from 340R rims)

12 spokes look best IMO.

The 111s wheels are 0.5" wider at the rear.

The 340R wheels will not fit onto an S1 without fitting extended wheel studs (or at least you shouldn't use them as there won't be enough thread holding them on). To fit these means splitting the hubs which means buying and fitting 4 new wheel bearings ...

There are two types of 340R wheels - they all came with alloy wheels to start with and then had the mag wheels retro fitted (they weren't available at the time of manufacture but had been on the specification or something like that). So that means there are some 340R non-mag wheels floating about.

5 spokes are the way forward ...

Cheers,
Robin
