acess to petrol pump
Me again.
My car has a deusional petrol sensor that thinks it's always full ....
I've noticed after going through the reciepts in the service history that the fuel pump was replaced in 2010.
I'm just wondering if it's something as silly as the connector not being plugged back in ?
If it has no signal does it read full or empty ?
It may be that the replacement pump doesn't have a guage fitted or that it's just fubar'd, but would like to have a look, no idea how to get into the pump though.

Re: acess to petrol pump
There's a cover on the shelf behind the pax seat. Not sure what it allows you into, but I may find out later in the week.
Re: acess to petrol pump
You can access the connections on the pump through said access panel, but can't pull the pump through it.
Should be able to use it to see if anything's obviously disconnected though.

Cheers found the hatch, i'd only looked on the driver side, (wish i'd thought of this last week when I had the seat out)
Away for a nosey.

Have you had a pump out before? Take it the tank needs to be dropped?
Re: acess to petrol pump
Unless you're happy to hack chunks out of the chassis (I'm not) to enlarge the access panel, yep.woody wrote:Shug wrote:You can access the connections on the pump through said access panel, but can't pull the pump through it.

Re: acess to petrol pump
Craig and I cut out a small pear sized shape portion at the side of the access hole to fit in an uprated pump for our S/C conversions.
As there is already a 3" diam cut out there, I would not think that it would make much difference.

Haha, yes, took cover off, had a look, there is a wire on it.
Checked the write up - butcher car, or drop petrol tank ... (without guarantee of solving problem)
I've decided a working petrol gauge is yet another optional extra on an S1 elise...
Tbh, they are quite vague anyway.
What is the tank range on the elise ?
I just fill up every 200mls at the moment, but maybe going up north next week and need a better guess

Re: acess to petrol pump
If you have long ratio gearbox and assuming you're not in 2nd at 7,000 RPM the whole way there then 250 miles should be very achievable. Just be sure to brim the tank on each fill!

Don't be so shy to take on a job. Dropping the tank is easy peasy.

Panel below it then half a dozen or so bolts while balancing it on a trolley jack? Haven't had a look yet.
Gregor, how rusty was yours inside, and did you do anything in trems of treatment?

I work on 250 miles on a road run as more power does not necessarily mean greater fuel consumption, at least not on N3.robin wrote:If you have long ratio gearbox and assuming you're not in 2nd at 7,000 RPM the whole way there then 250 miles should be very achievable. Re: acess to petrol pump
It's not the thought of dropping the tank that's the problem, if the wire had been forgotten, and to plug it in meant dropping the tank, that would have been an option, but it's the fact that dropping the tank, and removing the pump wont actually fix it if it's a faulty sensor.
I also remember in my last elise the tank used to go from 9litres to empty anyway, so it's not overly inconvienient now I have a better idea of the range.
Just didn't want to put up with it, if it had been a lead they had forgotten to put back on, then realised to plug it in meant taking the tank back out.
Cheers for the info.
