PZero Corsa - Alternatives?

Post by djmotorsport » Sun Dec 29, 2013 4:00 pm

Managed to punture the sidewall of the rear offside tyre at the junction of N. Hanover St and Cathedral St (Glasgow)- Nasty pot hole - but <10mph still did the damage.

Tyres are 265/35/18 PZero Asimmetrico - But all I can find on-line are Asimmetrico 2 which have a totally diff tread pattern.

Any thoughts on having such a mix on the rear or a potential source for the generation one Asimmetrico?

MMC have been mailed to see if they can advise.......

They are different but not vastly, if it was me I'd just stick the A2 on as I can't see it seriously off balancing the car as the compound is likely to be very similar if not the same.

I'm guessing this is for a V6 Exige? I did practically the same thing as you 160 miles after picking the car up new and had to abandon the car at an Edinburgh tyre place. They got me what sounded like practically the same tyre but on inspection it wasn't - the treadwear rating on the correct tyre is 60, the replacement I was given was 200 so presumably considerably different levels of grip. Good enough to keep me mobile but I wouldn't use it long term. I got the correct replacement through mytyres although checking the invoice it was an Asimmetrico 2, and checking mytyres they're not showing it any more.

AFAIK the correct tyre is Pirelli P ZERO CORSA Asimmetrico 2 265/35 ZR18 97Y XL LS - the key bit being the LS as thats the Lotus compound designation. Camskill are showing stock of this. How many miles have you done on the car? If it's a few thousand you might want to think about replacing both rears so youve not got major differences in tread depths. If youre needing something to keep you going in the meantime I've still got my original replacement in the shed which has done about 150 miles.

Tyre ordered for Friday fitting - Both places that I could get it from had no local stock - Not that many V6s yet :-)

PIRELLI P Zero Corsa Asim 2 265/35 R18 97Y Extra load LS is what's on the invoice so looks to be the correct tyre.

Thanks for the offer of the tyre - appreciated.

Being back in a 1.9TDi feels pedestrian......

Arranged fitting for 8 this morning - got to car, and the front is also flat : -( Same deal, tiny hole in sidewall - So far Glasgow CC haven't responded to my complaint about the pot hole.

So another PZero ordered.

Andy, what sort of milage do the ZZRs give? - I'm guessing they are 'similar' to the Trofeos in that wet roads may be a challenge?

A new rear tyre on wet roads was interesting.........

As a road tyre I prefer the Corsas - the ride of the ZZRs isn't as comfortable presumably due to stiffer sidewalls. The ZZRs are likely to last far longer though. One set did me the whole of French frolic - 3000 miles and 4 track days - so for road use only they'll last forever. They won't be as good in the wet but with the stiffer sidewalls you won't kill them on a pothole.
