NLC: Ford KA elec faults-need recommendation for Auto-elect

Post by r055 » Tue Jan 14, 2014 9:28 pm

Sorry for posting here randomly about a Ford, and a KA at that, but this thing is beginning to cost me more than my fecking elise did!
Now with my wife driving the 110 Defender to Hamilton and back every day, thats also costing me a fortune to fund the diesel!

Long story short...
Speedo doesnt work and numerous internet searches show different issues, unfortunately not just a speed sensor type faults.
Looking for trust-worthy auto electrician in the central belt who knows their stuff - any recommendations?
OR... anyone with Ford connections that I can speak to.

Long story...
Alison's 58-plate KA has been blowing lamps regularly.
It had also been doing strange things with the fuel guage - fuel showing complete zero then she told me you turn ignition off and on again and it will be fine (she'd been doing this for months!)
Then it died completely - checked all fuses, nothing. got breakdown guy out - he couldnt find anything
Reluctantly got it recovered to a Ford Garage who eventually told me it was the PCM fuse that blew - they charged me a small fortune for this and gave me a list of other things to get done

Just before christmas, took it to an ex-SAAB garage mechanic mate who is handy to do pre-MOT work - got all that done, but before it was dropped off wife proceeds to tell me the ABS light had been coming on... then the SPEEDO dies.

Google tells me its a ABS Pump module - new part is 700 quid! - so bought 2nd hand one
fitted today, still doesnt work
My mate has traced all wiring and everything looks fine... he is also struggling to get Ford KA wiring harness details as Ford dont seem to allow distribution of those details any longer.

He has now put his hands up and is not charging me for all the time he has spent on it and annoyed with himself that he cant get to the bottom of it

any ideas?

Are you certain it's not a wheel speed sensor?

My VX220 rubbed through one of the ABS sensor wires that was not clipped onto the wheel arch liner and this caused the ABS light to come on as well as losing the speedo...
