Guys
Apologies for the newbie questions, but as the Elise is nearing its roadworthy state I now need to look at tyres. I have Yokohama AD07's all round but need new rears for its MOT. I seem to remember you "need" to get the proper LTS versions but why? Something about being softer for the low weight???
For a good bit less I can get Yokohama AD08R's in the same size. Does it REALLY matter than much? Can I not just stick them on the back?
Or what about a set of Toyo tyres?
I'm not going to go mental with the car not do track days so cant really see why I need to spend £350 odd just for rear tyres.
Views on this welcomed
Cheers
James

No need to apologise for questions, we all have to start somewhere! Can't help on S2s but a friendly soul will be along in a minute. Robin had Falkens on his S2. 2 of them are now on my Skoda, LOL

AD07s are a pretty old tyre now, I think most people are moving onto the AD08/AD08R.
Definitely not a lot of point anymore in spending the extra on the LTS spec 07, IMO.

Thanks for the patience. I searched and saw there was a lot of comments about tyres and replacements for the AD07's however it seems getting the rears is simple enough then theres what to do about the fronts....
Will 205s really work on the standard Elise S2? I cant find them in a narrower AD08 tyre. So what do people do? AD08s on the rear and AD07s on the front?
Getting slightly less confused now but not clear yet.
thanks.

My only concern would be the width on S2 front rims. Not sure if 195s are available but I personally wouldn't go to 205.

No Woody, 195's don't seem to be available in AD08's 205 being the narrowest. Seems a bit odd if they are supposed to be the AD07 replacement.

They are for Yoko, however I doubt very much if they ever will be Lotus approved replacements (given that means someone somewhere spending money with little potential return).

I went AD07 LTS for fronts and AD08R on rears at last tyre replacement late last year as I've got standard s2 wheels.
Can't give much feedback as radiator blew a few hundred miles later and car has been SORN'd since. I think AD07 will remain available in LTS only but for most standard sizes AD07 will be discontinued.
Saves about £100 putting AD08R on rears compared to AD07 LTS , both are same wear rating and tread pattern.
If you go non Yoko people seem to go up to 195/45/16 on standard rims.
