Let us know how it goes, I might well have to buy a cheap one come July...

I've read elsewhere that cheap cats don't last all that long, so if you fit it and leave it on, it might be bust by next MOT..
I'm sure someone on SELOC posted that theirs lasted 3 MOTs...
Fit the day before.
Drive to MOT station.
Get a pass.
Take off and stick in garage the next day.
Repeat the following year - so a total of 9 days use ;)

Change to MOT regs (Not sure how recently) means that a car fitted with a cat the factory must have one fitted for mot.

I may be entirely wrong, but do cats not require regular use to maintain their condition?

Dom I believe it is more shirt journeys that clog them up. They need to get up to temp to work properly.

I've always been led to believe if you're storing them, to do so in an airtight fashion (gaffer tape them in a bin bag) as constant direct exposure to moist air does something to the internals?

Might be nonsense.

Think it used to be worded such that the car had to pass the emissions test... which 99.9% of the time meant a working CAT had to be in place.
