Steering rack gaiter replacement

Post by campbell » Sun Oct 15, 2006 12:05 am

Found that both mine had failed when doing annual inspection in August.

Thanks a million as ever to Obi Wan Hoy for use of workshop and, em, his superlative car spannering skills to do the work to replace them today. I kinda worked the ramp, turned a few nuts and sprayed copious amounts of WD40 all over the place while he did the difficult bits :-o

Steering wheel now at 30 degrees to normal (wee bit of an exaggeration) so trip to our friends at CLCM next week for full tracking adjustment. But at least I can drive in the rain again!

For info, the procedure for replacing these things is fiddly but better understood by both Lawrence and I having done it twice now. If anyone needs guidance, just shout.

PS - polished my tailpipes once we had finished. Very satisfying ;-)
