Front Clam removal

Post by les » Sun Mar 15, 2015 9:50 pm

Replacing the radiator (S1) so off with the Clam, but the bolt in the windscreen buttress is turning rather than coming out, access is obviously crap, any ideas the best way to remove it?

Cut a slot in the clam with a dremel, or cut the head of the bolt off, also with a dremel. The former approach, if you can make it work, means you can slide the clam out from under the bolt head but cannot now remember which bolts that does and doesn't work with.

On my car, the 2 each side into the sill, (rear most accessible with the door open, front most with the inner wheel arch out) were slotted already. I get the feeling these are always like that.

I'm sure the rearmost one at the top (bottom corner of windscreen, close to door mirror) is into a welded captive nut on a steel bracket. If this is spinning I think the dremel is your only option :(

If I get a chance, I'll take a couple of photos of mine with the clam off and let you see what it's like underneath.

On a side note, change the tow post when you get the clam off!!

Only 4 bolts to go..... :) Two can be slotted I think as they are at the bottom of the sill beside the door, the bolts at the sill in the wheel arch, anyone any hints, access is crappy and the hex screw seems soft even with a torx fitting
