how do you bypass S1 alarm?

Hi guru's

I'm looking to bypass the imobiliser\alarm on my 1998 S1 to see if it solves my dash light problems. I've seen this little device....https://www.eliseparts.com/products/sho ... er-bypass/

.. Can you please tell me where this gets connected to... Is the box under the driver or passenger side of the car... Much appreciated... Frog

The EP one just connects together pins 5 and 12 and 1 and 6 to disable the alarm/immobiliser and enable you to start just off the key. I did it on my cars, but just used two thin pieces of wire into the connectors.

Might do this to mine using the plug so it's easily reversible....alarms usually cause grief at some stage and it's 1 less thing to "go wrong"
Am I right in saying the plug can be found behind the passenger seat?.....and if so will it be in the rear bulkhead behind the carpet somewhere??

Hi,

On early S1s this will be in the boot behind the boot bag, on the ECU panel.

On later S1s this will be in the engine bay next to the ECU, I think.

On K-series S2s this is behind the bulkhead panel.

There is more to the immobiliser than this, so fitting this will reduce the security of your car, it does not completely override the immobiliser function.

Thanks Robin,you wouldn't know where to find this plug on a 111R 2005 vintage by any chance.I'm planning on Plymouth -Santander ferry in Sept and if I still have this car I'm considering "bypassing" the alarm.Mainly because I never use the remote central locking or set the alarm with the fob.......got locked out my 1st Lotus on the 1st weekend of ownership.Does this alarm self-set anyway....meaning I would still have to disengage it even with this plug in place of the alarm wiring plug??

Never done it on a Toyota engined car, but I'd guess that it may be a totally different procedure to the Rover engined ones, that this applies to?

Sorry, no clue about toyota engined cars - I am sure Craig at MMC will be able to offer you some advice on what to do to de-risk getting stranded on the ferry, though.
