Im sure some of those fasteners/bolts are not strictly necessary.
Speedy fasteners for clams on and off....
Speedy fasteners for clams on and off....
Do these exist? Wouldnt it be worth all of us looking into sourcing these and applying them to our vehicle....I mean who else would like clam off to be a five minute job?

The problem with quick release fasteners (DZeus type) is two fold:
One they can be a pig to fit right, they require a fastener and a receptical to be faily well aligned.
Two they wear out, the first you will know is when one comes undone and the clam starts to flap about...! We lost at least 4 maybe 5 panels on 56 Sqn in a year and they are all quick release fasteners.
I would stick with fresh bolts and coppaslip: tried tested minimal cost and effort (If you have the clam off anyway!)

Re: Speedy fasteners for clams on and off....
Even if you had quick release fasteners it would never be a quick job as refitting the clam (certainly the front one at least) requires lots of fiddling around with shims to get the alignment just right. I found it was this rather than doing up the bolts which took the time. You also have to remove the headlights, front access panels and wheel arch liners to get at some of the bolts. Not tried it but I would imagine the rear clam is just as fiddly.Michael wrote:Do these exist? Like the look of that Esthi hinging rear clam though
