S1 Door Spring Plate

Post by 111Robin » Sat Nov 21, 2015 5:53 pm

Has anyone replaced the door hinge spring plates ?. It's supposedly possible without removing the clam, just removing the relevant screws and pulling it out a bit to get enough room to remove the hinge bolts. Just wondering if its possible solo by supporting the door on a jack or is it likely to end in tears ?.

Is this the bit that helps keep the doors open? If so I hope it is possible without clam removal, as mine shut on me head with the lightest of breeze.....Jon

That's right, its just a plate that the hinge pushes on and passes over to then hold the door open, they're prone to breaking. If I thought I could remove the door I'd do it myself. The parts are cheap from Elise parts if you want to have a go then tell me how you got on :D

Read a bit on SELOC and many recon even fitting a full rebuild kit makes no difference......so think I'll just jam mine with me head whilst I get out....

It depends if the hinge (aluminium) is badly worn where it bears on the plate. If not a new plate will fix it. Mine is low mileage so the hinge is unlikely to be worn so will still have a go if I can get the door off without taking the clam off.
