Nope. It's a close ratio cluster (inc 5th) with a standard 3.9 final drive. Makes it a bit long legged in all gears - the Lotus close ratio box has a 4.2 final drive, which is what I transplanted in (crownwheel and pinion shaft) to make the ratios inc final drive exactly the same as the Lotus CR, but with the addition of a Torsen diff.mwmackenzie wrote:BRM is a close ratio box with a standard long 5th and a torsion LSDShug wrote:Yup - but the final drive was wrong. Enjoyed that, Mike. Quite fancy an SC now.Mike Scib wrote:Is the issue with fitting a LSD to the Elise not that it can cause understeer in slower speed corners as the front end is pretty light?
I have never felt my car requires a LSD even with 260bhp

Re: lotus and LSDs
I can't really comment from a technical point of view, only my experience of how the car felt to drive so here goes..
On road tyres (ad08's) the car would noticeably understeer if any sort of power was applied through the corner, on track tyres (r888's) I never noticed any understeer, on both sets of tyre's I found the car to be much more controllable in oversteer and I found driving the car to be more entertaining. Overall if I was to do it again I would choose the LSD as I had more fun with it fitted, especially Knockhill before I blew the engine clean in half..
Spec of car was an s1 with mems3 VVC running circa 170bhp with close ratio box and Torsen LSD.

I don't know myself, but I'd be inclined to agree with him.
and yes, I still think the same, even with 700hp it's not mandatory, unlike decent suspension setup.
