I've been moaning at MMC every time my car is in that I should be given an *equivalent* car as a courtesy car and I still get that bloody Suzuki Swift! My car's in again this Friday/Saturday. I'm giving Bill a call first thing tomorrow morning and demanding a 111R as a courtesy car!
This'll be getting added to the list of complaints . . . they're bloody lying to me again! Grrrr!
Rich, did they just give you this, or did you demand it? Who sorted out the courtesy car for you?

thats why i bought the 111r over the 111s. The second cam kick just made it feel a good bit quicker, despite the fact in normal driving there is very little in it.
Still next purchase will be lighter with more poke

Quaife make a six speed box, but TBH, for the money involved, you would be as well purchasing an engine conversion with six speed thrown in (honda or VAG 1.8T).
If you have an S2 non-VVC car then you'll already have a close ratio box, so the benefits of six speed box are going to be strictly limited to track use (all these cars have 20mph/1000rpm in top gear, so it's just a question of how hard you can keep the engine revving through the gears - the tighter the gear spacing, the higher average RPM you'll be running).
I wouldn't dream of putting the toyota engine back into a K-fitted elise. It's going to be a boat load of hassle and you may as well fit in the honda or VAG which is now at least reasonably well understood. TBH, the toyota engine is crap compared to either of these two, though it is obviously more powerful than the K (though only just so!).
On the price/performance/hassle factor of K upgrades much has been written.
If you just want bolt on upgrades you can get to around 140BHP with just cams and an exhaust manifold will help smooth out the lower end of the rev range. Piper cams will sell you all of this.
If you want 160BHP you will most likely need to look at a mildly ported head+cams (for this DVA or sabreheads are the experts http://www.sabre-heads.co.uk/). This is supposed to be the limit for the standard ECU; actually for the S2 it's a bit unknown how far the standard ECU will allow you to go.
If you want more than that you'll be looking at more heavily ported head with big valves or even a whole new casting (the K series standard head has a not too great reputation when heavily ported, but it works for some). PTP will sell you a complete kit to get you 170, and it will probably make a little bit more. This is a new "vulcan" big valve + wilder cams head, exhaust bits, ITG intake and alloy plenum.
If you want even more then you need to look at extreme porting, cams, vernier pulleys, DTH (direct to head) throttle bodies and you will also need an exhaust manifold with long primaries (4:1 type) and the factory ECU will need replaced with something else in order to allow you to rev it above 7,000rpm (because that's were all the power is going to be). You also need to think about swapping to forged pistons at that point too. This type of car isn't that much fun to drive to work through the traffic!
I think hitting 160/170 is relatively practical, reliable and affordable. Above that it starts to get complicated, expensive and the scope for catastrophic failure goes up
Good luck!
Cheers

Re: More Power Please
Hi mate, Graham gave me the car as it was the only lotus which had tax on it. It was a 55 plate 111R. I've only recently bought my car and part of the agreement was that I would be given a lotus if any warrenty work was needing done. I bought a used car and made sure this was firmly agreed if I was in your shoes I would be demanding another lotus or my money back!!dezzy wrote:What?!!?Wacky Racer wrote: I was given a 111R as a courtsy car.![]()

P.S. There is one reason which could have prompted Graham to giving me the 111R, he was trying to sell me a PTP car which is the the show room for the same price as I paid for mine 1 week before. He only wanted me to pay an extra 3K for the privilage. Aye Right!!
