This is only difficult when changing down from 4th and when the car has warmed up. It doesnt happen all the time but I sometimes have to skip the gear as it will not change down into it at all.
Any ideas guys?

The most likely cause of any gear change problems is linkage - either seized or needing some adjustment.
The clutch is an outside possibility but not likely in your case 'cos would affect more gears probably.
Synchromesh is quite likely, especially if it's been abused.
