water temp

Post by tuscan_thunder » Thu Nov 16, 2006 10:16 am

My water temp is usually around 87 degrees when hot.

Sitting in traffic it rises to about 90 - 92 degrees.

When I turn the fan (blower, not the engine fan) and heater on, the temperature rises. I find this odd. With the fan an heater on, it often rises to 95-96. Switching it off the temperature falls again.

I've tried this at home with the car static to ensure it's not just airflow having an effect.

Sound odd?

when the fan is on, the temp rises and stays there either until I get up to about 30mph or I turn the fan off again.

My S2 does similar, temp rise 2-3 degrees.

I think it's a case of TADTS.

Maybe related to power drop due to fan running, giving a different resistance reading through the temp sensor.

T.A.D.T.S

Crappy wiring is the fault. As long as it's consistant don't worry. Apparently it can be fixed by fixing the earth lead strap to the engine better but I tried and it worked for about a day or so. The earth lead is copper, the riv nut it's attached to is galvanised steel (Zinc adn iron) and the chassis is Ali, galvanic corrosion anyone? No you can't duralac it either.

As long as it doesn't drop too far (It will under acceleration as the water is shunted around the system quicker and you may get a little drop of 2-4 deg) or shoot up leave it.

You will find that it does the same with the lights on, so fan and lights together give quite a rise.

I had ginormous earthing problems, ending up in none starting, stripping and cleaning earth leads made no difference, so Craig ran an earth lead from the battery, through the Tx tunnel to the engine block and that cured it.

Still get the above temp rise though.

Mine does exactly the same. Except when am sittin idol the temp goes up and down between say 92 to 93 then back to 92 and so on?! Is this also wiring or something completely diff? I also get sometimes when am sittin in traffic steam out the front of the car if its cold or raining.....is this normal since the front is open? Just worried it was overheating or something?!?!?

Mine stack would flash when the stoplamps went on and temp would jump right up with fan lights ect
I striped the g/box chassis earth and wire brushed the plaid wire then I fitted an extra earth wire ( batt cable off m/bike ) from the chassis to the ecu mounting earth post result no flickers does not alter with lights but still + 2 deg with full speed fan
