Project EGOR - update

Post by robin » Sun Dec 03, 2006 7:36 pm

Well I finally got back out into the garage today.

I removed the DTHTBs in order to resolve some fitting issues (I had forgotten to attach the throttle cable, which is a pig to do in situ with the filter and backing plate fitted, and I realised that you need to rotate the injectors through 180 to avoid the connectors fouling the throttle bodies and worse still on my car with the hole I have cut in the boot you cannot remove the filter without removing the DTHTBs - for now I have worked around this by removing the trumpets, which will let me attach and remove the filter without all that rigmarole; once I get an airbox I can refit the trumpets <sigh>).

I then refitted them and put everything back together, except I left off the backplate and filter for a moment so I could see the throttles and the IACV.

It cranked and gave me oil pressure no bother (remember I had already had it running since refitting the head so I wasn't expecting any grief here).

The emerald gave me the green light for the crank position sensor so that was good.

I loaded a suitable map from the sample maps (Mill3.fig - a very similar setup) and tried to start. No joy, just spluttering away. Turns out by default the emerald maps don't use the IACV, so I needed to switch to manual IACV and open it up a long way. As soon as I did this it started!!!

Now it idles and runs like a bag of spanners, so will need to do some proper mapping, but that's best done with the garage door open and not on a cold, dark and wet night :-)

Any tips for a quick start to emerald mapping would be much appreciated. I am only trying to get a safe base map in there to get it idling reasonably well and running to 3-4K. Once that's done, I'll box the car up and trot off to Dastek to map it on the rollers properly.

Stick the wideband in and it'll only take a couple of runs

I thought your wideband kit had broken? If not then it would be good to see how well it all hangs together on the current map (which should be quite close).

I think it'll be possible to switch sensors without too much trouble, though access to the lambda boss is limited ;-)

Cheers,

Robin

Mil3 was the map that I used, and with little alteration by Ricky, when I went down to Dave Walkers with 180hp, that is what I left with as he could not improve on it.

Attached my last map on S_E1 for comparison.

Ta!

Your engine was rubbish though ;-)

Did you have 285 hydraulics? Also, did you really run the rev limiter at 8,000rpm  small wonder that your engine didn't last all that long in the end consider the number of KH sessions you did in it!!

Cheers,
Robin

I dont think it will fit an s2 robin however it would be easy to mod being single layer fibre glass
size is 6 an half inch deep ,23 inch length at rear, 19 inch at front and 5 and half height it only justs fits into the s1 boot with alloy boot lid the hose connection is 5 inch but I used a tight fitting 4 and half inch hose pushed into the box with a 114 mm cone filter onto the end off the hose

hope this help

it powers a 1300 mini that does 0 - 60 under 4 secs + 130 + mph

other more expensive carbon box is from

I have 285 mechanicals. Also forged pistons. Still have the head, must put it up for sale some time. I never found out how to change the original description to my own spec.

I bought the hard and soft cuts down, 7800 and 7500, so that map must be before I did that.

It did need rebuilding a bit too often, but I dont remember being passed on track by an Elise/Exige/340R.
