Had a quick look tonight under the arch.
Looks likes it's a 10mm nut instead of an Allen Bolt. .

I had the light covers off on Saturday - to get my car through it's MOT.

In the early S2 it's 3 bolts - you may be able to undo them with your hands, failing that a normal flat screwdriver - 5 mioute job!

You're looking at the wrong things then. It's 3 allen bolts/thumbscrews but they'll never be loose enough to just use your fingers. You can either use an allen key or a torx one, which I find fits better when they're rusted. You don't need to remove the wheel arch liner or a wheel but it's easier with the wheel off first time.

Can not believe with your background, knowledge and experience, that you can not go into a job that reflects that.

Just advising my sons at present, 14 and 17, who both want to go in the Forces. It is not what it was in my day, so I am not encouraging them, but I thought that if they went in with a commission, and ran to a pensionable service length, that they would come out with a good prospect in civvy street.

But then again, I am probably an optimist.

Sorry for the thread drift but...

It would appear my problem is that I'm too young to be considered experienced and too old for my degree to count for much. My training has been on specific types and all my bolt on courses (Health and safety, management, risk assessment, COSHH, etc) have been unrecognized outside the forces....

Too old to be a rent boy, too young to be a wino :(

Still looking and I haven't given up yet! This crap job was just to keep the savings intact while I get a real job somewhere.

I have enjoyed the majority of my time in the forces but things as ever are changing. For example the 6 months I did officer training is now 9 months, the 6 months engineering training covering both comms and air systems is now 2, 9 month courses. They are trying to train more and send you out better prepared, but this means longer in the trg system and not in the real world. For example: I enjoyed my radar theory training, but when am I ever going to use any of it? The Radar is the black boxes at the front of the plane and when it's bust, change it, I don't care how it works!

If they want to join the RAF as ground branch officers I would seriously recommend investigating Supplier or Admin Trainer. They are often overlooked as the appear to be less glamorous but the Stackers quickly become Movers and then jet all over the world doing the logistics thing, where as Admin trainers get sent on every civvy course there is to do with training and then leave with every training qualification under the sun. They also get sent all over once qualified to tell everyone how to train properly. Also the recruiting office will tear your arm off if you mention either! (If you said you want to be a scopey though, they would probably try and marry you! Washing machines in dark rooms!)

I'm sure I can put you in touch with a few of my old friends who will share their experiences if you want :)
