Hi there,
its not been my week

, I have now a faulty drivers door lock. This happened after it was frozen one morning and had to defrost it with de icer and warm water. Have not attempted to investigate yet but is a re pain entering from thr passengers side
is this a common problem? would I have to replace the barrel and if so whrer would i be able to have another one made up

what is happening with it Eddie?
I know craig had an issue with the barrel just staying in...

Have you tried getting some grahite based lubricant into it?

The locks are simple astra jobbies aren't they? Should be relatively simple to fix if you can get it out! They are barrel locks and if you can get it out then you could modify any barrel to fit off an astra, dunno if you can get a blank barrel as it were.
The barrel IIRC has a set of brass plates that are sprung loaded so they run along the key and stick out one side or the other if the key doesn't fit. All you need to do is put your key in to the new barrel and file all the sticky out bits off. Voila! new barrel for your key. Dunno how you get the lock out though.
Sounds like either one of the sliders is stuck or is broken. Give it a good blast with WD40 to get it all moving, might need wiggling quite a bit.

Recommended lube for locks is graphite as mentioned by tenkfeet, easily done by rubbing a pencil over the key.

graphite for working locks yes, if it's stuck it won't help! WD will penetrate the stuck bits and disperse any water then evaporate, then use the pencil

they also sell it for bike chains IIRC dry-lube or something
