Exhaust refurbishment... High temp paint.

Post by Victor Meldrew » Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:36 am

I have the factory fit Janspeed fitted to my S1 135... with a cat pipe, and the Janspeed downpipes.

The rest of the car is slowly getting older and starting to look it.

I want to get the exhaust blasted then have two tiny cracks welded up before they get any worse and I need a new exhaust.

Than I will need to paint it to protect it. High temp paint?

Any recomendations... comments
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Exhausts tend to rust out from the inside - the inner environment being much worse that the external one.

You could paint it but as Rossybee would say - you would be polishing turd.

Question... is it stainless steel or mild steel? I'd assume stainless... if so, you have a lifetime warranty on the exhaust surely :-

From Janspeed website:
Janspeed manufacture exhaust systems using nothing but the highest grade (304) stainless steel or aluminised steel throughout production. All bends are mandrel formed to minimise loss of wall thickness and tube volume. To ensure a perfect fit they are hand made on individual jigs. All Janspeed stainless steel systems carry a life time guarantee and 18 months on the mild steel systems.

If you check the fine print they only gaurantee from corrosion so cracks etc are not covered9 for stainless). If you speak to Jim at 2ubular he can recomend a company for painting. I believe its spray painted and its not too expensive although the reports Ive heard arent to great. Think uldis used it and it was flaking within minutes.
