Again, probably been posted.............
I would like to add an induction kit to the car & a S/S exhaust.
To be honest, thats probably all i would do........
On the Power Train Projects site, they Recommend the Janspeed + Sports cat + ITG Maxogen (£300!)
Whats the difference between the K & N 57i @ £70 & the ITG one at £300 ?

Not entirely sure but I don't think the K&N has ducting to the side vent. I've got a Hurricane which appears to be the most popular and it sounds great.

Exhaust sounds are down to what you prefer, best to hear a few ad then decide. If you can get along to a run or Knockhill when there's a track day on (such as this saturday) you'll be able to hear a few different ones.

Mandy's got the PTP combo on her car (currently the exhaust is off for repair) and it's bloody loud!
If we were to do it again i think the preference would be for larini and hurricane. larini for sound (quieter at low revs & hurricane for price)

Exactly what I have and it's ok, but with a de-cat its still pretty loud! The CR box doesn't help though!

Well as usual I would ask why are you doing it. If it's for noise then the cone type filters without airbox produce the most noise. The hurricane probably produces more noise than the ITG, though the ITG can be pretty booming under full throttle depending on engine spec - probably not so when standard other than at max RPM.
Not one of them will add more than a tiny amount of power, and if they don't have the correct length/diameter hoses or are poorly positioned (too close to a bulkhead or wall somewhere) will possibly lose you a small amount at various points in the rev range.
The absolute best investment on air filters, IMHO, is a K&N panel filter to fit in the standard airbox - just make sure when you get the car serviced they don't throw it away and replace with new paper filter, and make sure that you follow the cleaning advice properly at regular intervals.
The standard airbox is actually very good - provided you remove all the secondary baffles if you have them (these are for noise reduction, not power). You don't say what car it is - S2 VVC engine and the S1 Sport 160 are the only plenum based cars that came with the secondary baffles I think.
Cheers,
Robin

Robin, where are these baffles?
I've a standard 'K' S2 and am considering the K & N panel (like Campbells ?)

basically, an induction kit is not going to make much more than what, 1bhp?
I bought a K&N 57i 'cause it was cheap and it makes a great noise. In my mind, an induction kit on a standard-ish engine is all about noise.
Induction air temperatures make so little difference to power - the output with an induction temp of 20 c against 70 c is minimal on a non-race engine.
In saying that, I stuck a bit of tube up from the side air vent onto the filter - cost? About 20p.
K&N about £60.
Mair throttle, less brake

You don't have them so don't worry about it.

I think they're only fitted to the 111S S2 not the normal K16 variant. They would be inline in the air hoses - not the stubby one from plenum to airbox but in the pipe from that airbox towards the outside world.
Cheers,
Robin

Yep, basically the pipe from the side vent leads into a big empty box that then leads into the box with the filter in it that is then fixed to the throttle body. I'll try and remember to take a photo of all the bits that came out of mine when I fitted the hurricane, it's pretty surprising how much comes out!

Come on and be a tight bugger. - £50 will get you a setup like this -
sounds
Filter from motorworld, hose from eliseparts, ducting from homebase, then a flexible coupling made from a strip of bike inner tube put in once the ducting has sheared a couple of times.
or you could use a coffee tin.............

Yep, my K&N panel has been great. No idea what it does for power etc but it's a doddle to clean and has already paid for itself in the number of paper filters I haven't needed!
I had a Pipercross cone thingy for a while, it sounded bonza but I got bored with it pretty quickly and removed it when we had a lot of debate about hot air ingestion from the engine bay. I did buy some ducting to take a feed from the pax side intake pod, but then some eggheads started talking about negative pressure around there and I thought - "what is the point" !!
I have a nice SS exhaust, which provides just the right audio for my needs. What you need to remember is, it doesn't need to sound that loud to sound nice outside the car. And if it is loud enough to hear inside the car - for your own "benefit" - then you are probably going to get annoyed with it eventually, or at least need to resort to earplugs. The Elise is pretty noisy to start off with...
So, K&N panel all the way. As Robin says, make sure you clean it properly as per instructions. A filter may not add bhp, but I bet it can take them away when it's clogged!
I seem to recall Robin and I talking about a standard airbox mod which might allow a better column of air, already carrying some velocity, to be available to the throttle to improve general throttle response. Not a bhp improvement as such, more a "removal of intertia" thing. Never did progress it ... maybe we should cannibalise an old std airbox sometime for a laugh though!
