brake disc and pad advice

Post by ninja » Fri Mar 30, 2007 9:49 pm

hey guy's

my car is coming up for it's MOT and along with needing new tyres (which i already have and will get fitted this weekend) i need new discs, the pads are ok but i'd be just as well changing them too.

i was going to get the S2 turbo groved discs off elise parts? they're about 260 notes for 4 and i just wanted a little feed back on them? i don't have 800 quid to spend on discs as i'm currently doing up my house and natalie would kill me!!

also what pads do i get? i've not got a scooby about pads

Turbogroove discs are super. Made by EBC, and the Eliseparts price seems reasonable but check out http://www.ebcdirect.co.uk (or .com?) to be sure.

I went for a full set of EBC turbo grooved discs and Mintex pads last year. I'm really happy with them :thumbsup . It's nice I can stop now, since I could rid of those greenstuff pads.

before getting the turbo grooved jobs, chat to Stu160 (stu pollock) on here. He grooves his own from stock EBC. will be marginally cheaper than eliseparts, with the benefit of the grooves running right to the edge of the disc face. i believe the turbo grooved ones, the grooves stop before the edge, and can therefore do something funny to the pads... (robin??) also, good to throw the business to a fellow SEr i reckon :D

Pads wise, mintex maybe, ask simon about SBS, or Pagids that everyone goes on about. depends how hard on the brakes you are. I'm pretty hard on them and went for pagids. i tried them once and went back to OE. i much prefer their level of bite(the pagids). different strokes and all that though...

Er, last time I looked my "terbo" grooves ran all the way to the edge of the disc...but perhaps I better check in case it is costing me a couple of bhp!
