Changing Brake Pads

Post by Clarkie » Thu Apr 12, 2007 9:51 pm

Plan to get my new Pagids fitted this weekend in time for KH of the 22nd.

It's a while since I've changed any brake pads so wanted to check I'm fitting correctly?

Fronts look straightforward, wheel off, R clips off, pins out, pads out, cap off brake fuild, push pistons back, coppaslip on back of pads, pads in, anti rattle spring back in, pins in, R clips on, job done!

Rears are a bit more involved. Wheel off, parallel punch to knock pins out from inside of caliper. Do you need to take top bolt out of caliper here? Presume similar to fronts the pins go through the anti rattle springs which pop out each side? The pads should then release from the caliper? To wind the pistons back what tool do you need (would rather use tool for job than burst seals with pinch nose pliers if poss), and is it anti clockwise? Thereafter coppaslip on back of pads, pads in, springs back in and pins in from outside of caliper, job done!

Now the fun bit of bedding them in

Cheers

Clarkie

clockwise as memory serves on the rears, IIRC hafrauds sell a tool that might fit, but no guarantees!

If you can find a day that suits, you could pop over and I will do it for you. All the tools/lube/locktight/torque settings needed....

and I made a reasonable cup of tea...
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

It was clockwise on my MG, if that helps. And I used the shaft of a screwdriver to wind the piston back (rather than pinching the seals with grips)

Andy.
I have no signature.

Long nose pliers are the best tool for the job and I can't really see how you can cock it up using them. That thing that eliseparts sell is a useless piece of sh*t!
