Instant Karma - Doh! content

Post by woody » Wed Apr 04, 2007 4:05 pm

Spent sunday aft hungover and gave the car a clay/polish/wax etc... The car has however taken exception to this dramatically changed state of affairs and now appears to be running lean :(

It'll fire up fine and runs fine at low engine speeds (<3K) open it up though and there's no power and lots of hesitation & stuttering. No signs of HGF. Plugs are out, and along with the tailpipes, their normally sooty black running a bit too rich look has been replaced with a chalky whiteness.

Noticed a new rattle last week and dissmisssed it as being the exhaust, but with hindsight it could be pinking

Other than the car being clean nothing elses has been touched, had a look over it and there's nothing obvious. Is the fuel filter a possibility, or a sensor? I'm lost with these beyond carb's and points mostly :| Any ideas/help gratefully received.

Faulty MAP or TPS sensor?

Disconnect one then the other to see if there's any difference.

I agree - it's probably lost the TPS and doesn't realise you are opening the throttle ...

Then again it's a sport 160, so different ECU, so cannot be sure.

Cheers,

Disconnected both - engnie just died.

Then tried resetting the TPS, but no joy.

Has been suggested to me by a tame RAC man that it might be the ecu temp sensor? Will get a newone tomorrow.

Disconnect one at a time.

The one that doesn't affect is probably the dodgy one :-)

Should have put that a bit better - i disconnected one at a time! Also tested the ICAV but it's fine.

Tray off and test the lambda tonight and fit the new ecu temp sender if partco have one.

So when you remove either one the engine dies?

Sounds like it's not one of those then which is strange.

stuck on a TPS from the scrappy today and the car ran a lot worse.

Then put mine on and it still wasn't right. Think both could be u/s, and i'll need to try a new one. The car's running with the TPS disconnected now before and after trying the replacement one in, and with it in.

:? :(

the news good and bad:

The metal bits in the exhaust are bits of gubbed cat (lucky then that i bought richardhumble's decat last week) wasn't sure if i had bits or piston or not :)

Not running well issues weren't the TPS; with the new one fitted there's no difference :(

well thats it sorted :D :D :D

The HT lead from the coil to the dizzy cap had chaffed against a bracket - and i've had new HT leads sitting for months :?

I only noticed the small bit of chaffing when i took the exhaust off to check the state of the cat on friday, and couldn't try the new lead until i'd got nuts & bolts at work today to fit the decat (bit of grinding action put paid to the cat studs  )

It was always bound to be somthing silly.
