Have bought a Boot lid for the 306 (hatchback). The one I have is rusting

. Do any of you machanic types have any "trade secrets" as to getting the replacement boot lid to align properly without too much has hassle?

Yes, make sure you have a friend to help, otherwise when you're undoing the last bolt and you think all is well, the damn thing will fall on your head!

Big rubber hammer. Lots of patience. Probably won't line up ever.

assuming the tail gate has two bolts on each bracket, put one in each side and try aligning it from there.
other trick can be to wedge cardboard between the body shell and the tailgate at both sides to make sure the gap is 'roughly' equal
Mair throttle, less brake
