At it again today, managed to make some progress. Fitted new seals to gearbox, the newer type B seals which I think are alot better than the old ones. So.........

In it went.

I have noticed that with the clam off it's so much easier getting to everything, had the engine and gearbox in and fitted in under an hour. Even with having to remove the lower nearside wishbone.

Can now get started on the wiring for the Xoombox. Injector control is going to be a pain as it needs control over individual injectors IIRC. So will probably run with VVC wiring for this and batch them together with the emerald. Does mean running 3 more wires back t the ECU. Other than that, run the wiring into the cab for oil pressure and temp, wheel speed sensors and injector control loom.

Should finish bolting everything on over the next couple of days but as I haven't got all my parts yet and some of them I will need to start it, probably have to wait till I get home next time before firing it up. The suspense is going to kill me............

Mike

Sorry you may have covered this allready but what oil cooler are you using - i used the mocal oil to water one, routing through the PRRT just above the slave cylinder which has worked well.

have some photo's somewhere i could dig out

Mine is the Lotus motorsport one that fits under the front clam, have also fitted a oil thermostat so it doesn't over cool the oil.

Oil to water cooler is a good piece of kit, however I got the oil cooler for pennies and even after buying all the bits and bobs it was alot cheaper than buy one of them so went with the front mounted oil cooler. Chose not to run a sandwich plate and changed to the modified oil filter take off that has the fittings for an oil cooler.

BTW fitting the cooler and running the hoses is covered on page 2.

Yup - air-oil probably better at the sort of power you're aiming at. IIRC, the standard cooling system has enough capacity to cool water and the oil via a laminova up to about the 200bhp mark.

Mike,

I've been following this excellent thread, gathering info to rebuilding a K (its also cheaper and has better photies than most of WH Smith's car mags :D )

** Gormless Question Alert **

What method of cleaning was used on the block and head to strip it back to that "as new" alloy finish

:cheers

And has been in service for a number of years now - circa 3 IIRC as it was one of the first jobs attempted in the West facility.

It's a single piece alloy jenvey. The injectors are pico 330 cc/min. I will be running an FSE power boost regulator fixed at 3-4bar with goodridge 200 series hose and fittings.

Not much got done the last couple of days. TBH because I'm away tomorrow for 3 weeks it's kinda hard to muster the interest, those of you that work offshore will know what I mean.

Anyway took a mad fit tonight and decided I wasn't going until the oil cooler stat and hose work was finished. After looking under the car I found the perfect place to stick the stat and then cut all the hoses to length and fitted the push on fittings. Never again, next time I'm getting swedged fittings those push on are a PITA.

Image

here's the oil thermostat bolted to the chassis leg next to the fuel tank, just drilled a couple of small holes and used nut rivets, some washers to space out the bracket to clear the brake pipe. Once the tank protector tray is back in place you won't even know it's there and it will be well protected, perfect. The hoses still have to have their convoluted protectors fitted where they bend round the chassis but there is still plenty slack in them so no problem there.

Image

Picture of the filter housing all hosed up, another job off the list.

Like I said earlier away tomorrow for 3 weeks so not much going to be happening. As usual will resurrect the thread once I get back and actually do something, until then stay safe and have fun :thumbsup .

Interesting. I've not yet ordered new hoses for mine, but the standard hoses which are swedged have always had a tendency to seep.
