Re: Nearly done...
Although it may sound strange, I was there when Ali called them today and said he'd send the uprights and calipers down to get the bells machined to fit. I saw the discs on the car and they really didn't fit even with the wheel on. From reading this thread you could get the impression that Ali was maybe dragging his heels a little with your car John but it's really not the case, he's doing all he can to get everything sorted asap for you which is why he is stripping the front end tonight to get the parts sent away and your car back to you. The new spec is pretty sweet mate and I'll be looking forward to chasing you (from a distance) round KH next year
Cheers

Just a little worried why "std" isnt "std" if you know what I mean... The front hubs have had four sets of disks in the time I've had the car so it has to be the Elise parts mounting flange.. better bloody well not start machining my hubs.. maybe that was a too obvious thing to say....

Re: Nearly done...
So how long do you think it will take Elise parts to figure out what is wrong with their disks and send my uprights back to Ali so he can get my car fixed.. betting they are shut all the way through the festive period and they dont even look at them till mid Jan....

Re: Nearly done...
May not be as bad as that - Geary's a good bloke - I'm sure if you gave them a bell in the new year and asked them what they thought about it so far, they would probably get their fingers out and get it sorted.
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: Nearly done...
P.S. You can buy a set of normal disks from stock from a number of retailers for not very much money that will stop your car in the same distance ... the limit is first and foremost tyres with disks/pads only really being a limit when you have more horsepower I suspect.

Re: Nearly done...
Reports Ive had back about the AP disks were that they are without a shadow of a doubt the best on the market..robin wrote:P.S. Obviously running list 1a tyres the grip will be limited a bit, hear the Khumu's are pretty impressive though..

I've got no doubt that they are, but i used eliseparts ali bells on my honda, and standard discs on my current car, and i havent had many problems.
Infact, when i was racing last year, i outbraked quite a few AP shod cars.
Robin is almost always right about these things
Re: Nearly done...
Am sure that you broke two ali belled discs at Donnie, and I also cracked two on FF06.

Re: Nearly done...
I had one crack in an ali bell (at silverstone) in 3 years of using them, and it was replaced for free as they reckoned it was a manufacturing fault.
I cant justify spending over 1K on brake discs when, as robin says, the limiting factor isnt the discs, but the tyres. I did almost 300 miles round spa one trackday, ran the pagids down to the metal, robin and bob put a new set in for me, and i went back out and spanked them some more, and they still did a great job with no fade. I just dont think you need the AP's unless you've got 300bhp plus.
