Really enjoying this thread... Just like an episode of OC choppers... When are you going to punch a hole in your door?
How will access be to the cambelt one engine in place? And dare I ask what the ball park cost would be? >15k? Obviously a long way away to setting something in stone...

Cheers Ross, we don't punch holes in the doors but we do sometimes blow sh*t up.... will that do?

Cambelt access will be hard, it's the clam that really makes that difficult, there have to be a few concessions on this type of build and cambelt access is one of them, luckily they are a non-contact engine and the belts last for 60k+ . It is probably an engine mount/exhaust off job and tilt the engine/gearbox to get at the belt.

£15k? hell no, i'll be pitching this at somewhere around the £7k region for everything that you see in this build supplied and fitted. The £10k 4 cylinder swaps i've seen have been milking the cow for a long time, there's no way it should cost that much.

This s2 is the same swap as an s1, both k series so no more k series test mules will be needed

Looking really nice.

I don't see the cambelt thing as that much of an issue; if the clam had to be removed to get access to it, that would make it more of an expensive job, but not that terrible, especially if all the fasteners go back on with plenty of copper grease so that will come out again. I read somewhere about a clam mod to make it quicker to remove/refit clam - possibly that was for an S1 - but something to do with the fuel filler neck aperture I think.

I'll bet the pint tasted good, if a little painty :-)

Cheers,
Robin

hi woodsport,

:popcorn watching the conversion with interest :D and also, taken a look at the other conversions you have done for the MR2 :thumbsup

This has probably been asked before but i was wondering, has anyone asked or requested you, to do a conversion of the 2gr-fe v6 into an s2 exige? i know MWR has put on into an elise....however, an exige would be nice :D ........lotus i feel would of gone for this, if they has pushed for the v6 exige, im sure.

Anyway, do you have a cost estimate for doing such a conversion?

leigh :thumbsup

Looks impressive. Very much so. I fear the rest of the car is going to need a total makeover to catch up!!

When are you going to start it up?!?

Hi Leigh, i think you could easily double the cost of this V6 swap for a 2gr version into the exige, so probably a £15k conversion at a very rough guess.

I've worked a lot with the 2gr engine and for me it is just too heavy for something like an Elise.

Hi Campbell, i expect startup to be around 2 weeks time at the current rate of work, still an awful lot to do.

I am running something by you guys to get some feedback, as you know i have had to modify the engine lid a little on this car to clear the V6, which is a lot of work.

So my plan is to make a "V6 lid" that can be molded up and instantly produced in fibreglass or even Carbon fibre, saving me a lot of work on each conversion. So that leads me to styling, i fancy making something new, that suits the Elise, has some of its original features, aids cooling, has the necessary clearance for the engine and very importantly looks good.

With that in mind this is my first idea, please feel free to crap all over it, that is exactly what i am after, your honest opinion of wether it works for you or not, also feel free to submit your own idea or design that you would like to see in an engine lid, even if you have no desire to ever have a V6 fitted, this could be something you would like to see for the standard car.

This is WS Elise lid 1.0, excuse the sh*t paintshop skills, the idea was to blend in a scooby type scoop and get rid of the rear vents leading to it, opinions please.

I will post up more design ideas as i go and settle on one eventually to produce, so your opinion is very welcome.
