You have no idea the sleepless nights I've had since I found all this thinking the same thing!!!!!!.

There aren't any marks on the spring retainers on either shock although the bolts are tight to get in/out, doesn't seem to be a clearance issue.
The line in the photo is the stiffening plate welded to the top front wishbone and your right I might as well change the mounts for new ones, done everything else!!!. Planning on posting the rebuild which should be when I come back from OS at the end of Jan.

Update for anyone still watching this thread. Protech e-mailed me back and asked that I send them down to them so as they can assess the damage and find a possible cause. Will post the outcome when I get it.

OK, protech sent me back replacement shocks and it looks like they have had this happen before as the design of the eyes is completely different. No explanation what might of caused the damage, just a set of new fronts arrive unannounced. So I guess that's a happy ending.................




For sale: complete set Protech suspension for S1. Brand new fronts with 2 year old rears. c/w springs, rears 325lbs fronts ???? Offers

I would have been pushing for a complete replacement of all 4 - I am no expert but surely brand new fronts and 2 year old rears are not going to be the optimum combo?
