Campbell, I've got some you can borrow. You want me to bring it to the Speedfair on Sunday or you need it before then?

Hi Campbell ,
I suggest you use tar and glue remover to soften the silicon, and your plastic spatula to scrape it off. It should not mark the paint, as long as your car has not been painted in the last week or two. As for the chassis rails try and keep all chemicals away for aluminium .Mind and clean off and don't leave on paint too long. A quick wax will save marking. :thumbsup

Thanks Stuart, very helpful. Petrol has also been suggested somewhere, and Lawrence always swore by it ;-)

Yep petrol will work too but its just a wee bit more messy. Will try and acquire some tar and glue remover for you from work tomorrow, As i will be at KH on friday to watch or is that too late for you?

Campbell, I'm up on Friday at KH to go out on track, so I'll bring the Tardis up if you like?

Crikey two offers, haven't been that lucky since, well, since I was a student I think ;-)

Whatever's easiest, Dezzy, looks like I can try one product on one headlamp and one on the other!

much appreciated, both of you

Stuart,

Thanks again for the products on Friday night. I finally made time to try out the "big red tin" tonight, and with some perseverance and help from a "non-marking scourer pad" (!) all the old silicon is gone. As are the dead bugs, spiders and general road-grime that had all taken up residence under the covers. Polished over as advised.

Sadly I fractured one of the existing lamp covers when removing, so they are now long gone for time being :-( Albeit they don't owe me anything, they're nearly as old as the car and may well have saved a headlamp or two! Will need to pick some more up before too long though.
