Harnesses
I like my harnesses all the time and I wouldn't want my 3 points back, makes the odd junction a little exciting cos you can't see very well but other than that they are great.
Not so great if you have thick pax who can't work them out. The g/f likes them as she is too short to reach the pax footrest so she is more comfortable and doesn't slide about as much.
Like Mac I don't see how fitting both is going to make much difference to safety, it's a fiberglass seat anyway. Just be prepared for the tangle of belts that will prolly ensue with both fitted....

Nope, I don't see a problem either, but it's in MSA rules that any bolt securing a harness must be used for that purpose only. In other words, you can't just piggy it on to a seat mount bolt or something. So, the shared mount for the lap+strap and the harness would fail you, if the car was scrutied for a competetive event.RICHARDHUMBLE wrote:

Which you are in a -10g stop! I'm still not a fan of harnesses in road cars. Two problems (a) most of the time people won't do them up tight enough to work properly when you crash (b) the reduced visibility that you get when they are done up properly increases your chances of being a SMIDSY ... (Sorry Mate I didn't See You).mac wrote:It's down the extra load exerted on the bolt by the lever arm effect of having the load situated further away.
Might make a huge difference is your the size of an elephant.....

Me neither - but then I don't class my car as a road car - it normally goes from garage to track and back. I'm even considering doing MT in Mandy's car so that I don't have the restrictions imposed by the harnesses.

Mine are f'ing tight and so are my paxes. They don't like it much, but them's the rules! No point having them unless they are tight antway, may as will not have them on.
I do take extra care around junctions and I'll swing wide to see if I have too.

Just installed harnesses this weekend. I haven't been too far so the jury is still out. I do feel a bit more "connected" with the car, but as Rich says you do have approach junctions at a new angle. Kind of reminds me of a Mk 1 MR2 as the visibility in that was pretty poor at some junctions.
Not had any passengers yet, but that may be a PITA.
I didn't keep the 3 point belts in as I didn't seem to have the correct connections. I also figured that the harnesses would really get in the way and scratch all the chasis rails if they are not connected.

Obviously this is for research purposes only, as this would be evasion of the parking fee...

I've got the willians with a similar style buckle. Both MOT's I've asked if it will be a problem - they look and say - if it's good enough for an F1 car then it's good enough for me. Besides I can exit the harness with one hand - I need both to get out of the car!
