Winter Strip Down and Rebuild (Done and Dusted)
Re: Winter Strip Down and Rebuild
Going offshore!!...that shouldn't stop you, fill your bags full of bits. You can get the rig spark making you up wiring looms and the rig welder making you any brackets you need

Re: Winter Strip Down and Rebuild
OK back home and trying to sort out some of the bit that have arrived since I was away. Be home a week and not done a thing yet, garage is to bloody cold. So dug out my heater and going to get cracking today. Got some pictures from Rog of the head getting its cam lobe relief work and spring seats machined.

Looking good for the end of November delivery on the head then it's dry build to check piston to valve clearance, hopefully before I go back to the rig. That way I can send the pistons to Rog to get the pockets deepened while I'm away.
First thing first, oil cooler pipes to run and order the cowling etc for the cooler...............not looking forward to this, supposed to be a pig of job.

Re: Winter Strip Down and Rebuild
Some more bits and bobs,

Suspension bolt refresh kit from Yvo.
Oil temp and pressure gauges again from Yvo.
PRRT kit from PTP.
Oil filter housing with and extra hole drilled and tapped for extra sensors. (still need a T Piece for the pressure switch)
1/2" Aeroquip push on hose and assorted fittings.
Clutch trunnion kit. (already done this once and made an arse of it, hopefully do it right this time)
Rack riser plates.
200ltr/min water pump.

Re: Winter Strip Down and Rebuild
Right, oil cooler fitting. Bob, hope your paying attention.

First job is marking out the A pillar for the hoses.

Then drill out the 2 x 30mm holes.

Next remove the drivers side coil tray to gain access to the inner sill.

This is where the hoses need to fed through. I decided that it would be a lot easier
with the fuel tank protector removed. This made getting the hoses past the sill
strengthener much easier.

With the tank protector out of the road the hose easily feeds through the sill............
...... and past the sill strengthener.

Once fed through the sill, squeeze your hand in through the coin tray hole and
feed the hose up and out of the holes drilled earlier. Hay presto one down, one to go.

Same procedure again and the second ones done.

Time to fit the push on fittings. These are a real bugger to get on, so with a tub of ................

boiling water at the ready to keep the hose supple, jobs a boggie

All that remains is to fit the hoses to the cooler I installed earlier (in the best blue peter tradition).

Lastly, drill the 2 x 83mm holes in the crash structure, mine already had these along with
the 2 x 30mm hose holes and the mounting holes for the cooler itself.

I am leaving the hose in the engine bay till my thermostat arrives. Once that is mounted
it will just be a case of making up a couple of jumper hoses to get from the new filter hosing
to the thermostat. BTW all the fittings used are 1/2" BSP.
Just remembered, need to cut the hole in the under tray and order the cowl that directs air to the cooler, hose protector and some grommets for the holes. Couple of 'P' clips to go in to keep the hoses above the wheel arch liner need doing as well but I'll leave them till I put the car back together. Will update this post once I get the missing bits.

Mike, where did you source the hose for the oil cooler? One of my winter jobs is to replace these hoses on my car (wvta sport 160's had coolers as standard) as the standard R6 type hose has perished above the front wheel.

Re: Winter Strip Down and Rebuild
Got some more done today. Finally figured out how and where to mount the wheel speed sensors for the TC/LC. Made some small brackets from B&Q's finest aluminium angle and mounted them directly to the hub carriers. These are AC inductive type sensors which have a tell tale LED on them which makes setting them up very easy.

Rear wheel one, spaced to pick up the bolts on the Ali hub for the disc's. Should give quite good resolution as there are 10 bolts in each one.

Fronts are easier to mount but leaves them a bit exposed. Not sure how this will work out, guess time will tell.
Again lined up on the ali hub bolts.
Next job is to mount the oil stat.

Re: Winter Strip Down and Rebuild
Just heard from Rog at Sabre Heads. New guides are fitted and he's got me some shinny new valves. Surface blasted the head and it's looking sweet. One problem that has shown up is a small amount of corrosion next to one of the fire rings. Once I get a chance to have a look at it will decide weather to run with the Landie MLS or stick with the Payen Silcon gasket. Doesn't really show up in the photo's so will have to take Rog's word for it till I get it home.
Getting all excited now it's all starting to come together

Some of the new 32.7mm valves, Inlet guides and exhaust guides that Rog made up.

Inlets.............nice

Exhaust

Seats before the new guides were inserted.

With guides................
Not long now, then dry build time to check one last time all the bearing clearances and the all important valve to piston clearance.
