If you can jump start it rather than bump starting it, I think that would be better (and a lot less work!).

Cheers,
Robin

Jumped the car this morning, 11.4v before starting - up to a fairly healthy 13+ volts with the car running.

Two hours of driving, pulled over - dead :(

Managed to get a bump/jump start of some very helpfull blokes in the petrol station (after being turned down a few times) which got me back home.

Try topping the battery up with battery acid or Lilt if you cannot get battery acid ;-) Might save you from a new battery until Spring arrives, at which point the old battery will last until next winter ...

Cheers,
Robin

Started half a dozen times without jump leads however the speedometer and rev counter is now over reading by around 15mph and 900rpm.

Any idea how to sort it?

You never said how you sorted that, Kenny. The one time I had the same happen was because the battery was sliding about and the positive terminal was earthing against the front chassis leg.

Mike

Never mind, just spotted your link.

Tracked down some Granville Bat-Aid tablets - was suprised that they were still on the market, popped two packs into the cells and put on charge overnight. Just checked and we are now in the high 12v range and the ready light on the charger is starting to glow dimmly.

fingers crossed :D

Two jump starts and a visit from the RAC and my batterys still not right. The RAC guy said last night the battery was a goner after testing it. Any suggestions to how much I should be paying for a new one and without sounding like a total blonde, would it be possible for a complete novice like me to change it myself?

Mel

You can get a new one from Dingbros for £32, but you would need someone or a friendly garage who has an account to order it for you.

As for whether you can fit it yourself being a blonde, you don't have to. Just wear a short skirt, put out the request on here, and the usual suspects will be hairing around to do it for you.

Worked a treat for my daughter Clare.

yes it's not difficult just awkward,

remove the washer bottle and the bracket it is attached to.
loosen the battery clamps
remove battery (this is the aqward bit, but with a little persuation, some skint knuckles and a few swear words it will pop out.

fitting is the opposite of removal with some different swear words

Thank you. (anyone with a dingbros account want to help a lady out, haha?)

The RAC guy tried to offer one at 68 quid

Haha! I like that. So how short would the skirt have to be? Am kiddin
