Was it Gold plated? Seriously though, anywhere with a trade account can get them for £20 - it's a standard Timken part number.
Maybe wasn't that much then. I did buy it from the local supplier of bearings and remember it being cheaper than the online Lotus parts retailers. I do recall that we fubared the first attempt and had to buy another one  but was still cheaper than asking a garage to do it.

hmm

not sure if even McApe could manage that

but both said fellas have helped sort out front bearings on UJI as well, albeit with Lawrence's neat little bench press and much struggling with the hub carrier bolts ;-)

My wee clio runabout failed it's MOT yesterday :( Rear nearside passenger brake cylinder leaking and needed replacing.

Anyhow, garage said one of the front bearings was making a slight noise and listed as an advisory. Was quoted around the £120 mark for getting it fixed, so your price doesn't seem that far out for a garage to do the work.

Reading the savings though people can make by doing it themselves, think I might have a bash myself over the summer.

I have never done a front one on a clio but generally all you need is a press to push the bearing out*.

it's not a big job.

*some more modern cars have it as a complete unit that you just bolt on too (S2 elise for example) :thumbsup

Remember a front on the clio means removing the drive nut so it's a little bit more complex making sure you remove the driveshaft from the hub and not disturbing the gearbox end.

Doesn't sound like a bad price supplied and fitted TBH.
