Steve's car was cosiderably higher tuned than yours and would therefore benifit from the tuned trumpet length. Not convinced it's worth the extra £120 + vat price difference TBH.
Its called future proofing... its what I've done so far on everything thats went onto the car.
The trumpet lenght can be changed to suit latter, it will be supplied with whatever Mr Scouse recomends for the engine spec I have at the mo..

If you do go with the standard road elise air box then one thing to bear in mind is that the 90mm trumpets are the longest that will fit comfortably. I have a set of QED 110mm's and they end up to close to the air box wall to be of any use.
One more thing to consider especially if your going to tune your engine further

Going with the biggie, if I can get one in time for the next round at Kames...
Also the boot is getting chopped out... and some extra venting at the back end.. (all weight saving)

Are you doing anything about the bottom end? Where are you going to get it mapped (I'm assuming that you're running with the Emerald for the DTHTBs - it's not exactly practical to run on the MEMS

).
Is the bottom end good for the power? If you blow a piston to bits then the damage may well be more than a wrecked bottom end - you may damage the head with the shrapnel. Won't be an issue at 170, maybe not at 180 but beyond that it certainly will be just a matter of time ...
Cheers,
Robin

Dan will be sorting out the mapping on the rolling road at his nearby Morgan place. Latest Emerald with the closed loop Lambda thingy waiting at SPS to be fitted. The STACK afr kit is sitting in my spare room ready to go on.
Dont expect much more than 170 for now. Will be looking into the internals over the winter. Whats going on the car just now is stuff that can be done in a few days. When the engine does come out, it will get a similar bottom end treatment to what Mike built up... rods, light flywheel, full balance etc.
May start out with a "non cooked" block and build up a stronger bottom end to stick the top bits on. Also watching the second hand market to see what coming up...

Jenvies arrived at Dans today

, looks like I will be starting off with a standard size airbox as the lead time for the big one is going to be too long to get it fitted in time for Kames. Will fit the bigger one later.

Vic,
did you get the throttle linkage from Jenvey or are you using Bernards one?

Going to be using the one that comes with the airbox, meant to be pretty good.

Think that might be the one Shug has had all the bother with, not sure but he should be along to confirm or deny

Oh right... I would imagine that a new set will be ok for a while until it starts to wear a bit... then maybe the Jenvey one could go on.

Yeah - did fine for ages. Mine was a bit different as it wouldn't clear the VVC head properly, so Stu had to make a cut-down version, which put an even more indirect pull on the cable. Best option at the time. I've now bent over and just got the Jenvey one to sling under the TBs.

The Jenvey has one other advantage over the other kind from Bernard and QED. That is it gives you a second return spring on the throttle. Does come at a price though, in it's favour it's almost to nice to hide behind an airbox.
