Sounds like a good (see cheap) compromise on the AD07s or RE040's
Aye, will fit the standard wheels in 195/50 R16 guise :thumbsup

Just means the rims are trickier to kerb shug ;)

Kumho and Toyo say that the 195/50/16 is "ok" on the 5.5 rim, and Kumho will even support the 205/50 if you can squeeze them past the wheel arches! Ideal size is going to 6+ though, to minimise any sidewall squidge :thumbsup

I'm also looking at either T1Rs or Kumho KU31s at the moment.

Where is best / cheapest for the Kumhos at the moment? ( I'd prefer to purchase / have fitted at the same place if possible )

Neil McK - which front size ( 195/50x16 0r 195/45x16 ) are you running on the 135R and, if the latter, did you adjust your ride height to compensate?

No they don't......their web page specifies a 6.0 rim and they confirmed this to me with a very sternly worded e-mail saying I shouldn't fit them to a 5.5 rim under any circumstances. I know it's common practice to do so with other brands of tyre but that's the official line from Kumho.

After a lot of deliberation I ordered a set of TD alloys, fitted and delivered with KU31 Ecsta Sports, for not much more than the cost of fitting a set of AD07's to the standard rims. Worth considering as this would increase your options in the future (summer/winter tyres etc) and you can always sell the TD alloys when you get rid of the car.

If you can put tyre snobbery to one side and get your head around the fact that the KU31 is a budget Korean tyre, I'd say it's a no brainer to go for these. Type the name into google and you'll see they have a fantastic reputation with guys fitting them to M3's, 911's etc (and Elises !) and saying they are every bit as good if not better than the premium brands.

i bought mine from camskill, and went for the 195/45/16 front as they are a fair bit cheaper. I wanted to lower the front ride height anyway, but you could just adjust the damper by 3mm to keep the ride height the same.

Not sure if camskill will organise fitting for you, i just got my local place to fit them.

Chart clearly states a 5.5 - 7" rim range for the 195 and a 5.5-7.5" rim range for the 205.........

I have taken the plunge and bought a full set of T1R's, decided to go for those as there was only around £40 of a difference in total between the Toyo's and the Khumo's. Did manage to put my snobbery aside for a while and nearly went for the Khumo's but at last minute wimped out.

Cheers for all the help though, I'll soon be able to comment on this sort of topic soon :D

That's interesting Steve, I never thought to look on the Kumho USA page. The link I was looking at was this one : http://www.kumhotire.com/tire/tire_stan ... prdt_id=16 where it quotes "Standard Rim 6.0J" against the 195/50R16. They e-mailed me back to say this was a minimum rim width and all sorts of nonsense about safety. Looks like the guy was talking pi sh, as was I in my previous post

Thanks Neil,

I have been running Yoko 039s for the road - they are very good but also very expensive, think I'll probably try the Kumho KU31 this time.

What kinda price are we looking at for T1Rs. I'm thinking of changing to a tyre that will last longer on the road (and be more practical for the winter) for when my current set of 48s run out. The 48s are just costing far too much and wear far too quickly.

I was £330 supplied & fitted by Ronnie about a year ago. That was Exige sizes Dezzy. May be cheaper out there (Black Circles maybe?), but I knew Ronnie had done loads of Lotus jacking before.

Cheapest for T1R's at the moment is Camskill (that I could find, someone will no doubt correct me :)) from what I could find and you're looking at around £285 for OZ wheel sizes (including shipping). Depending on how much you can get fitting for (usually £10-£15 a corner) you could be around £325-£345. Now that is currently the cheapest I could find. I went with Ronnie at around £365 because of how he has been in the past. He's always taken a lot of care when jacking and even more care when removing the tyre. I've had alloys marked in the past and am very protective of the OZ set :D.

I was quoted £320 for a full set of Khumos from Ronnie. Those prices are fitted and balanced.
