CF is cheap if you look a bit harder

Fcuk it off and just scrap the crud off. As long as the PVC mats are gone so is the problem.

If you are out of warranty then check anyway it will only get worse!

UPDATE
Took the car into MMC Edinburgh this morning. The serive chap (Bill Young?) took it around to the workshop and reappeared 5 minutes later confirming that it is a "Level 1".
He explained that this is lift the rubber mats, clean the ali and fit breathable mats.
It is now booked in for Friday 23rd June. All I need to work out now is how to get from and to MMC from Ingilston as I will be working at the Highland Show.
I am right in thinking that the bus station is very close to MMC?

Cheers

I see your "Level 1" and raise you a "Level 2" corrosion as diagnoses by Alistair (Ed remeber takign him for a pax at E Fortune?).

Booked in for two weekends time, "no option of loan car for warranty work".

Not going to mention the conversation with Graham about a certain 240R...

The Bus Station is miles away from MMC, though you should be able to get a bus from near The Gyle, out to Inglston, MMC should give you a lift to the bus stop...

Alternativley, I'm hoping to get to 'The Show' this year and was thinking of Fri..What time do you have to be at the show for?

John, thanks for that. I am on holiday this week and can't remember what time my slot is. I do not think it will be too much of an issue though as there are quite a few of us working there and we will be staying in Edinburgh on Thursday night so hopefully I can hook a lift from them. If I am struggling I may well give you a call :thumbsup

Cheers

While searching the british cars bbs I just found this:
James

I think you may even be able to do it out of 8 years, after all they themselves said it was not part of the load bearing structure or the chassis and therefore does not come under the chassis warranty, but they will do it anyway. To me it's a curtious thing and I suspect as long as you ask the factory nicely if you've been turned down, that they would probably do it.

i had this problem on my early 97 car, spoke to lotus and they said it was a free repair and wasnt based on any warranty and it didnt have to be reported within any time limit. mine is being sorted next month.
Anyone know if this is true or not?

Hmmmmm

That's definately odd - I heard it did come under the chassis warranty and that's why it was getting repaired gratis.

Having said that, from past experience, I'd guess it would depend entirely on who (at both the dealers & factory) you asked...

Some further info for anyone else in this situation (corrosion out of warranty).

I just phoned MMC about this. The girl initially said I would have to pay for any repair as it was out of warranty. I mentioned I'd heard of people getting it repaired out of warranty. She didn't know, so went off to ask someone. She called me back and said it would be a free repair as it was a Lotus "warranty recall" whatever that means.

I get the feeling its a free repair if you argue the point. If you just sit back, the dealers will happily charge you for it.
