Acht poo. I know that you'd be able to use the 'yota S2 driveshafts with the S54 box, was hoping they'd go into S1 hubs.

No hassles, will just take a bit more thinking. S2 hubs on an S1?

Keep in mind there is 2 varieties of S2.

The earlier S2 still used the Rover K series.
Only the later cars used the yota engine.

I'd imagine that underneath they are very different cars, even the wheels aren't compatible...

Indeed, it was mentioned a few posts ago. I only found out recently myself, i was under the impression all S2's were 'yotas.

I could do with a list of differences between the three options, is this readily available anywhere already. Is there an Elise wiki or the likes?

S2 Yota rear subframe/rear suspension is different, so not sure what combo of parts (hub/upright/driveshafts etc) would fit together to let you use yota driveshafts in an S1.

I use Drive Link for all my driveshafts. Rather than trying different hubs why not get custom shafts made up. Install your toyota inner and rover outer and take a measurement. Get drivelink to make the shaft to your spec. Very helpfull and easy to deal with

Isn't it the Rover outers that cause the issues when you start upping the torque? JSD (who did that VR6) say that they've been having a recurring issue with the Rover CV and the torque output...

I read that as well, I don't think that was a standard R32 though, hence why he was exploding joints. Its true though, the rover joint is the weakest link. They can make you other joints as well but that's when things start getting pricey.

Friction wleded shaft - £150
Bespoke shaft - £200 minimum, depends on spec.

Friction welded probably wouldn't be a good idea for your application.

Just an idea

Would be interesting to see if it's possible to machine the S1 hub to accept the S2 bearing and there-in the splined hole to fit the yota shafts.

Peter Gidden from Sbits managed that to good effect with Mk1 Mr2 hubs and Mk2 turbo bearings. Solved our CV problem on the Mk1 turbos.

The inner ends i can use the standard 'yota shafts as the S54 and the C series gearboxes are compatible.

I think the issue is more driveshaft lengths, as they differ. That said, cutting and shutting a single driveshaft would be an easy and relatively cheap way of working out the issue. Hubs are completely different though (S2s use a bolt-on GM bearing pack, S1s are pressed in Montego bearings), so not sure if they physically could be machined - you probably couldn't work that out without measuring.
