Newport-On-Tay, would welcome a hand, happy to pay in beer for anyones time, as I would like to get a bit more technical, and at least do the basics. Wouldn't want to learn too much, as Robin would miss my stupid questions....

Either suits me. Only problem is I don't have a jack/torque wrench as they're both in Ed's garage. We'll need to find somewhere flat to jack the car up also where it's out of the way.

Ferg have you got the necessary tools and do you fancy a trip over the bridge? Actually, thinking about it it's quite a long way for you to come.

Anyone nearer Dundee got a jack etc? I'm in St Andrews so not too far away.

right, I think a plan has come about. Mr Arnot has kindly agreed to lend me relevant equipment! (Thank you to everyone else for kind offers too!)

Paine Snr is coming to lend me a hand with his technical know how, and I will ask the wife to supply beer and Pizza!

So, if anyone fancies a bit of a Fife gathering (I am reluctant to use the phrase Spanner session as I have no garage and very little in the way of tools!) so it would be standing around chatting mainly....

Cheers,

Dave

Well last night was fruitful, albeit not the news I wanted. LSS is fooked, as the bottom mounting platform has gone. Robin has very kindly offered to lend me a spare, which will at least allow me to get the car to Falkland, whereby it will be treated to some new suspension.

Answers on a postcard as to what thought!

Thanks for the help though chaps, and Robin just about to ping you an e-mail!

Arse. Can you not just replace the spring seat?

Indeed - I thought the spring seats collapsing on the Billies was a common thing? You need to replace the whole damper?

Shame mate.

Not entirely sure, certainly didn't hear the spring seat being mentioned, but Robin pretty confident as well as Tom that it was farked!

I think a set of Nitrons may well be called for.... :thumbsup

Spring seat is what should be at the bottom of the spring in the photo connecting the spring to the bottom mount of the damper and compressing it (the spring) slightly to hold it in place and set your ride height. Supposedly these corrode and snap, but I thought you could get replacements. However, if you're of a mind to upgrade, it's the perfect opportunity.

Although hard to tell from the picture, I believe that the push rod is also bent/broken away from the lower eye, so the damper is scrap.

Cheers,
Robin
